White Egg / Black Egg Smorresbrod

A simple, elegant open-faced sandwich born out of a discussion several weeks back. Scandinavian-inspired with a twist.


Ingredients:

1 slice dark rye bread (vollkornbrot, etc.)

1 t mayonnaise or creme fraiche
1 t cream cheese
1 t dill, chopped
1 t cracked black pepper
1/4 t mustard powder
1 egg, hard-boiled & sliced
2 t black caviar
pinch of crushed caraway seeds
pinch of grey salt (or fleur du sel)


Method:

- Mix mayonnaise or creme fraiche with cream cheese, chopped dill, black pepper, & mustard powder
- Spread mayonnaise mixture on bread
- Arrange sliced egg on top of the bread, then top with caviar
- Finish with crushed caraway seeds & grey salt
